The fine print

You gave me your name and your email. That is a small act of trust, and I do not treat it as small. Here is exactly what happens to it.
1. Who I am
My name is Lorraine R. Walsh. I am a Certified Life and Success Coach, trained through the Jay Shetty Certification School, and an Advanced Human Design Practitioner. I work under the name You Building You, from Jacksonville, Florida, USA.
There is no team here. No marketing department. When you fill in a form on this site, it comes to me. When something on this page says "I", it means one woman at a desk.
This policy covers the website youbuildingyou.com, the free quiz, and the information you share with me when you become a client.
2. What I collect
Not much. Here is the full list.
When you take the free quiz
The quiz collects your name, your email address, your answers to the questions, and the archetype the quiz assigns you at the end. That is it. No phone number, no age, no income, nothing about your marriage.
When you use the contact form
Whatever you type into it. Usually a name, an email address, and a message.
When you buy from me
Your name, your email address, and the record that you paid. Your payment goes through Stripe, and I will come back to that in section 6.
Automatically, in the background
Like nearly every website in the world, the servers that keep this site online record basic technical information when a page loads: an IP address, a browser type, the page requested, the time it happened. This is how the internet works. It keeps the site up and keeps attacks out. It is not used to build a file on you.
3. Why I collect it
Every piece has a reason. If it did not have one, I would not ask for it.
- Your name and email from the quiz: to send you your result, and to send you emails I think will genuinely help, if you agreed to that. You can stop those emails at any moment with the unsubscribe link at the bottom of every one.
- Your quiz answers and your archetype: to give you a result that is actually about you, and to understand, across everyone who takes it, what women in this season are struggling with most.
- Your message from the contact form: to reply to you.
- Your purchase details: to deliver what you paid for, keep proper records, and handle a refund if you ask for one.
- Technical logs: to keep the site running and secure.
If you are in the EU or the UK and you like the legal language for this: I rely on your consent for marketing emails, on contract for delivering what you bought, and on legitimate interests for keeping the site secure and answering your questions.
4. What I will never do
This is the section that should let your shoulders drop.
- I will never sell your information. Not to advertisers, not to data brokers, not to anyone, at any price.
- I will never rent or trade your email address. You did not sign up for other people's marketing.
- I do not run advertising trackers on this site. No pixels following you around Instagram. No retargeting you with the thing you just looked at.
- I do not share what you tell me with anyone who is not helping me deliver the thing you asked for.
- I will not add you to a mailing list you did not agree to join. Silence is not consent, and neither is a contact form.
5. The services that help me run this
I do not build the plumbing myself. A small number of companies do the technical work, and each one only sees what it needs to do its one job. In the legal language, these are my processors: they handle information on my behalf, under their own security terms, and they are not permitted to use it for their own purposes.
- Stripe handles payments. See section 6.
- Loops holds my email list and sends the email sequences. If you gave me your email, that is where it lives.
- Cloudflare hosts the site and protects it from attacks and bots.
- A scheduling tool handles session bookings for clients. When you book a session with me, your name, your email and the time you chose pass through it, so we both end up in the same place at the same hour.
Some of these companies are based in the United States. If you are in the EU or the UK, that means your information may be handled outside your country. Each of them works under standard legal safeguards for that kind of transfer.
I may also have to share information if the law requires it. That is the only other exception, and it has never happened.
6. Payments
Payments run through Stripe. This matters, so read this line twice: I never see your card number, and I never store it. Not on my laptop, not in a file, not anywhere. Your card details go straight from you to Stripe, who are built for exactly this and are held to the payment industry's security standards.
What I see is a name, an email address, an amount, and a confirmation that it went through. That is all I need, and that is all I get.
7. What you tell me in a session
Coaching sessions get personal. You may tell me things you have not said out loud to anyone.
What you say to me stays with me. I do not repeat it, I do not use it as an example, and I do not put it in an email or a social post, even anonymously, unless you have said yes to that specifically and in writing.
I keep simple notes so I can serve you properly across sessions, and I keep them private. Please note that coaching is not a legally privileged relationship in the way that therapy or law is. There are rare situations where the law could require me to disclose something, most obviously where there is a risk of serious harm to you or to someone else. I would rather tell you that plainly now than surprise you with it later.
9. How long I keep things
Not forever, and never longer than there is a reason.
- Quiz results and email list: for as long as you want to hear from me. Unsubscribe and you come off the list.
- Contact form messages: for as long as it takes to sort out what you asked about, and a reasonable while after.
- Client records and session notes: for as long as we are working together, and for a period afterwards in case you come back or a question comes up.
- Payment records: for as long as tax and accounting law in the USA requires. That one is not my choice.
- Technical logs: they roll over on the host's normal schedule.
If you want something gone sooner, ask me. See section 11.
10. Keeping it safe
The site runs over a secure connection. My accounts are protected with strong passwords and 2 step verification. The companies in section 5 are established providers with proper security practices, which is exactly why I chose them over cheaper options.
No system anywhere is perfect, and I am not going to pretend otherwise. What I can promise is that I take it seriously, and that if something ever went wrong in a way that affected you, I would tell you promptly and honestly rather than hope you never found out.
11. Your rights, wherever you live
It is your information. You are allowed to have a say in what happens to it.
If you are in the EU or the UK
Under the GDPR you have the right to:
- Access the information I hold about you, and get a copy of it.
- Correct anything that is wrong or out of date.
- Delete it, in most circumstances. This is sometimes called the right to be forgotten.
- Portability, meaning receive your information in a form you can take somewhere else.
- Object to me using it in a particular way, including for marketing.
- Restrict how I use it while a question about it is being sorted out.
- Withdraw your consent at any time, which stops the marketing emails from that point on. It does not undo what was already sent, and it does not affect anything I had a separate legal reason to do.
If you are in California or another US state with a privacy law
Under the CCPA and similar state laws you have the right to know what personal information I collect and why, the right to get a copy of it, the right to ask me to delete it, the right to correct it, and the right to opt out of it being sold or shared for advertising.
That last one is easy: I do not sell or share your personal information, and I never have. There is nothing to opt out of. You also have the right not to be treated differently for exercising any of these rights, and you will not be.
How to use any of these rights
Send me a message through the contact form on youbuildingyou.com and tell me what you want. Use the email address you signed up with, so I can tell it is really you. There is no form to fill in, no department to get past, and nobody trying to talk you out of it. I will come back to you within 30 days, and usually far sooner, because it is just me and I read my own messages.
12. If you are not happy
Come to me first. Most things are a conversation, not a case, and I would like the chance to put it right.
If that does not resolve it, you have the right to complain to your data protection regulator. In the UK that is the Information Commissioner's Office. In the EU it is the supervisory authority in the country where you live. In the USA you can raise it with your state Attorney General. Using that right does not affect anything else here.
13. Not for under 18s
This site and my work are for adults. Nothing here is aimed at children, and I do not knowingly collect information from anyone under 18. If you believe a child has sent me something, get in touch and I will delete it straight away.
14. Changes to this page
If how I work changes, this page changes with it, and the "Last updated" date at the top changes too. If a change actually affects what I collect or what I do with it, I will make that obvious rather than bury it. I am not going to quietly widen what I take and hope you never read this again.
15. Governing law
This policy, and any question about how youbuildingyou.com handles your information, is governed by the laws of the State of Florida, USA. If you live in the EU or the UK, this does not take away the protections your own law gives you.
16. How to reach me
One door, and it works. For anything at all about this policy, a request to see your information, or a request to delete it, use the contact form on youbuildingyou.com. It reaches me, and I answer it myself.
